Right now... it is 3:38 PM and I think I hear Gabe upstairs just getting home from school. Normally I would be just getting up from a short nap about now but I didn't sleep as I was reading Unplanned by Abby Johnson. In case you haven't heard it is Abby's story of how she went from Planned Prenthood director to pro-lifer (in a nutshell). I am riveted by the book and wish that everyone would read it as it is a reminder that love and understanding are what is needed to change hearts.
This weekend...On Friday we watched the movie Life is Beautiful. It was one of the most heartwrenching films I think I have ever seen. I had to go into the bathroom after it was over and have a good cry. It is an Italian film from 1997 that played in local theaters and I remember being popular at the time (thought I didn't see it back then). We rarely take time to watch movies but I think we really need to have a family night like this more often to feed our spirits and take a break from the drudgery.
On Saturday we went to the Farmer's Market and church plant sale. I bought three tomato plants, some Jalapeno's for Andy, Kale, as well as some impatiens for my more shady front yard. We planted them in the garden along with some beet seeds. It was such a beautiful day.
On Sunday I went to church in the morning and Andy and Gabe went to Latin Mass at 1:30 as Gabe was alter server for that day. Latin mass is during the little kids nap times so I like to stay home with them that way I can have a nap too.
For supper Andy made teryaki chicken on the grill for our first cook out of the season. He also cooked corn on the cob and potatoes on the grill too. It was all very good. A little chilled white wine to go with it would have been perfect, but alas... Afterward we went for a walk in the prairie/empty lot in our neighborhood. When we got back I got my Mother's day gifts and cards: I got two books: Sister Faustina's Diary and the book Unplanned by Abby Johnson (as mentioned above.) Gabe also made me a card with 8 bars of music composed as a duet for the two of us to play and Andy had the little kids help make me a really beautiful card (I should post it.) It has paper flowers glued to it: three fully opened flowers representing the already born children and a blossom representing the baby that is on the way.
Plans for the week...I am hoping to buy more vegetables for the garden. I am especially hoping to find some lettuce. I want to take the kids out in the bike trailer for a short ride or two to get us started (though I don't plan on doing anything too strenuous this summer.)
If I can find some time for myself I would like to...Finish this blog post! It is 10:14 on Tuesday night.
Prayer intentions for this week...That all continues to go smoothly with the sale of our condo. The closing day is May 27th! Hooray!
Something that makes me smile...
