This weekend I played in a symphony concert on both Saturday and Sunday. Friday night there was a rehearsal. I went to mass after the Saturday afternoon rehearsal and before the concert. I was planning on going to a place downtown where I had been before to get a sandwich before the concert but found out the place was closed at that particular time. It seemed that the only place open was a little Italian restaurant so I ordered a calzone to go. While I did enjoy eating it I thought it was way overpriced as it was a lot of bread with very little filling. I was still glad to have something half way yummy to eat without having to leave the area to get and face the possibility of loosing my parking place.
We played Petrouska and the Beethoven Violin Concerto. I didn't especially enjoy playing this concert as I didn't feel particularly prepared and I didn't think the conductor rehearsed us as effectively as he could have either. I did however learn what Stravinksky's Ballet was about and watched it on YouTube. This helped me to know more about what was going on in the music and it made a world of difference. The ballet is one hundred years old and yet still seems so avant-garde.
After Sunday's concert Gabriel and I went out to eat with my sister and some of her friends. We went for sushi of which I only partook of the fully cooked stuff due to my "delicate condition." On symphony weekends I get to live the single life for a bit as I go out to eat and doing what I please in between rehearsals and concerts. It is lonely at times and I eat out way more than I should but it feels good to get out and feel "free" for a little while.
Some plans for this week I really need to make a menu and go grocery shopping today. I want to plan some Holy Week/Easter preschool activities. I plan on browsing to see what is available at Catholic Icing where there seems to be a wealth of ideas for Catholic preschool activities.
I am hoping we can have family prayer every night this week and get stuff for Easter baskets as well as some new dress pants for Gabe (dress shoes too?), dress shoes for Clare and a whole new outfit for Ephrem as he doesn't really have any shoes other than the sandals I bought him at the thrift store and his sisters old tennis shoes with pink stripes. I usually do Easter basket shopping on the Saturday night before Easter. I absolutely cannot wait for chcolate eggs!
If I can find time to goof off: I already found time for that. We watched the movie White Nights last night on a whim (It streams from Netflix) and after watching that it rekindled my interest in Mikhail Baryshnikov and so I was watching Baryshnikov videos on Youtube this morning. Fabulous!
Some prayer intentions for the week: For a pregnant friend, that the sale of our condo goes through, for the new baby I am carrying.
Something that makes me smile...
