The First Snow and a Second Start at Homeschooling

Today we had our first snow after a very mild winter.  Yesterday it was in the fifties for heaven's sake.  It was snow and windy and cold today but Clare couldn't wait to go out and wanted to stay out despite her discomfort and complaining.  Ephrem had no qualms about wanting to go inside.

Here are pictures of Clare's second venture outside today.  Ephrem didn't want to go outside but of course after he saw Clare outside he wanted to go too.  Sometimes it's as if they can't bear to be parted.

Here is a picture of them looking at each other through the back door window along with Clare stomping around outside:

Later on I had Gabe go out and shovel snow before Dad came home.  Clare wanted to go round front and be with Gabe.  She was out for quite a while with him.  It is so good to have family all together again.

As school was starting up again after Winter/Christmas break we made the decision that Gabe would be homeschooled again.  He went to school on Wednesday and that day we told him that we would be homeschooling him.  It came as a bit of a surprise to him though I had hinted around about it quite a bit.  He wanted to go to school the next day and wrap things, so he did; though I'm not sure how much wrapping up he was able to do.  He was home on Friday.  I felt much conflict and angst for a few days after the decision.  He, however, seemed fine with it once the decison was made and he was home again.  I am feeling much better about the decision and it feels like we have received so much grace in this decision.

I spent the week making book/curriculum choices so we have yet to begin actual schooling, but this morning he helped me get the potroast ready for the crock pot.  It was a joy to share this time with him.  In public school he was either at school or doing homework.  I feel like God is showing me how to love my son in a much deeper way through all this and we see more clearly what a gift it is to homeschool.
